October 2020

We went on a fun ATV drive with Gary Shumway, his daughter, Darla, and Steve and Janet Wilcox.  We went out to Fry Canyon looking for a petrified forest Gary Shumway had heard of from his father.  We didn't find it, but we had a great time.

This was the end of the trail that we thought would lead us to the forest.

This rock had a hole through it.  We called it a mini arch.
We found this old truck abandoned near an old mine.

On October 16 to 19 we had a fund visit from grandchildren.  They were Carson and Marie, Kari, and Carson's sister Cheyenne

One of the fun things we did while they were was a trip out to Bridgies.  Here are Carson and Marie and Sipapu Bridge.
                                                    Cheyenne and Kari at Sipapu.

Kari, Gary, Carson, Marie, and Cheyenne.
Cheyenne, Carson, and Marie and Goosenecks of the San Juan

The next week Gary and I went out to the bottom of Comb Ridge near Arch Canyon .

There is a large rock on the opposite side of the trail up on top of a hill with amazing petroglyphs on it.

The petroglyphs are hard to see on these photos, but they show up really well on Gary's drone video.

Someone carved their name in this rock in modern times.
This is the rock that contains the petroglyphs.
                                             Me on the hike.

this is the rock from the other side.  You get to it by following an ATV trail through a rough canyon.
We went on further up the road and found this amazing cave.  It is way up on top of a hill.  We didn't try to climb to it, but Gary flew his drone up to it and got some good footage.

The night before Halloween we went to JJ and Tammy's for dinner with all their family.  I got pictures on my phone, but we were unable to transfer them to the computer.  On Halloween evening, they all came trick or treating.
Jayden, Emma, Jack and Aevyn.  Jayden and Emma are Donald and Daisy Duck.  The kids are Micky and Minnie Mouse.

Spencer and Claire.  Spencer is Merman.  Forgot the character that Claire played.

Shae is a hippy.  JJ is a whoopie Cushion.  Tammy was a milk carton.  Somehow I managed to not get a picture of her.

Catching Up

We have been attending an empty nesters home evening group since last winter.  It has been a lot of fun for us.  We had a hot dog roast recently at the Tibbitts cabin up on the mountain.

On September 5 we had the privilege of attending John Michael and Brittney's sealing at the Mt. Timpanogas Temple.  This was the first time we had been jp north since the pandemic started!

There was a reception for them that evening in Provo at the home of a friend of Brittney's.

The next day, on Sunday, we had a family dinner in Jim and Rebecca's back yard. Marcus and Michelle with Belle.
Brittney and John Michael with Rachel.
JJ and Jayden wrestling  (of course).
                                                Spencer and his girlfriend, Claire

On September 14 we started out on a fun road trip which included ten states.  After a night in Provo, we headed for Idaho.

In front of the Idaho Falls Temple
                                             Some of the temple landscaping
A view of the temple spire from outside the fence
We stayed that night in Rexburg then headed north.  We stopped to see the beautiful Mesa Falls

From there we drove to West Yellowstone then drove through the park on our way to Billings.  We stayed that night with Brittney and Jeremy in Billings.
The next day we drove into South Dakota.  We stayed in Mitchell where we enjoyed getting photos of the Corn Palace

Next morning we drove into Iowa and down to Lemars where Gary lived as a young child. We found the Eberhard graves in the local cemetery.
                                                         This is Gary's grandfather
We drove from Lemars to Rochester where we spent three days with John's family including the corn maze.
                                                    Kattie and Belle
John pulling Belle through the maze in a wagon.  Behind the wagon is Michelle
                                                  Dorine in the corn maze
Leaving the maze after finding all of the items on the list
On Monday we headed for Iowa again, this time through Madison County.   This is one of the bridges of Madison County.

We down to the Mormon Trail where we visited Garden Grove

                                                                  then on to Mt Pisgah

We stayed that night in Council Bluffs then found the Kanesville Tabernacle

From there we drove to Winter Quarters

We found Edward Tuttle's name on the plaque showing all the pioneers buried in the Winter Quarter's Cemetery. He was Dorine's fourth great grandfather.
