Thanksgiving in Mexico

We left home on Tuesday, November 20 to drive to Mesa where we spent the night with Chuck and Diane.  On Wednesday we drove through southern Arizona and crossed the border into Mexico at Lukeville.  It was only about an hour and a half on to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) where we had reservations in the beautiful Los Palomas resort on the Gulf of Mexico.  On Thanksgiving morning we went for a walk on the beach.
We were surprised at all the fishing boats we saw out in the gulf.  Apparently a lot of them take tourists as many of the guys in our group went out the next day and caught a  lot of fish.
We walked past this RV park on the beach.  It was full of Americans and explained why we saw so many RVs on our way down.
These were some of the resorts along the beach.  Ours was the one farthest to the left in the photo.
Later that day we had a big group Thanksgiving dinner.  Everyone provided something.  We brought the rolls and stuffing which we cooked there in our unit.  Seated here are Zach, Alisa, Jeff, Anika, and Gary.

I started to take a close-up of Gary, and he wanted to adjust his glasses.  I caught him in the act and got this cute picture.

At this table are Shaelyn, Jayden, Jack, Emma, and one of JJ's nieces.

JJs sister Jackie, her husband John, JJ and Tammy
Jack enjoying his first Thanksgiving dinner.
Here we are on the beach in front of our resort. What a fun place it was!

Playing with Jack at the beach

                                                          Beautiful sunset on the beach

A little later of the sunset

That evening we enjoyed a delicious fish fry using the fish the guys caught.  This is at

The next day we went to the Fish Market which is a bunch of shops selling souvenirs.  It was on the port.
Here is a shot of one of the streets in the market with all it's brightly colored items.
We went for several more walks on the beach, but this one was in the evening when lots of birds were there apparently eating something the tide brought in.

On Sunday we attended church and then enjoyed a peaceful day in our condo.  On Monday we headed for home.  We stopped just after we back  to Arizona to see the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
This is an organ pipe cactus.  It is made of many small cacti grouped together.
These are some Socorro Cacti.  One is quite fat and the other is very tall.
This is a more typical Socorro cactus alongside an Ocotillo which we found quite fascinatiang.
This interesting cactus is a chain-fruit cholla.  It was covered with spines but looked like a tree.
Pretending I was poked by the spines.
                                                           This is called a saguaro.
This is called a teddy bear cholla.  It is very cuddly!
                                                          Here is an ocotillo
                                               This is a creosote bush.
This is a dead cactus.  If you enlarge the photo you can see many holes in the flesh.  Just thought it was interesting.
After we left the national park we drove through a lot of interesting desert with pretty mountains in the background.
                                            More interesting mountains.
We stayed that night in Apache Junction with Keith and Kayla before driving home to Blanding.

What a contrast Utah was to Mexico and Arizona.  A week later we got snow and were able to get this shot of Blue Mountain with the sun hitting it's snow capped top.

It was wonderful reconnecting with friends I hadn't seen in 50 years, and Gary enjoyed meeting Mary Swasey's husband.  They had a lot in common and visited throughout the reunion.  What a wonderful opportunity to reconnect!
